OTTERS
The return of the otter to West Dorset streams has been well documented by Dorset Wildlife Trust.
As part of a DEFRA Stewardship scheme, and with DWT guidance, two otter holts were built in the winter of 2004/05 .
It has been possible to detect the presence of otters in the vicinity of these holts, but as yet they remain unoccupied.
Otters mark their territories with a distinctively fishy dropping ("spraint") - one siting is recorded below.
